Permanent Collection Exhibitions

Outsider (In) Sights | through Feb 14
Inevitiblely, in choosing themes for exhibitions certain works tend to get passed over. Well, those outsiders of Rockford Art Museum’s Outsider Art collection such as Mose Tolliver’s Big Headed Mouse Man and Charles William’s Super Woman make an appearance in this exhibition. Seldom seen yet great work by famous artists such Charlie Lucas, Georgia Speller, Jimmy Lee Suddeth, Alyne Harris and Archie Byron among others are featured.

Photographic Manipulations | through April 3, 2010
Rejecting the thought of photography as a representation of the real world, Photographic Manipulations pulls together photographs of artists who use lighting, lenses and extensive use of darkroom process to warp reality or to create an altogether new one. Represented artists include artists include S. Gayle Stevens, Joseph Jachna, Misha Gordin, Claire Trotter, and Geoffrey Winningham.

Unveiled: Restorations Revealed | through June 6, 2010
Aging is not confined just to living things. Paintings and sculptures go through their own aging processes. Unveiled: Restorations Revealed explores this process through examples from RAM's Permanent Collection that have gone through or are awaiting art's fountain of youth: the restoration process. Works by George Robertson, Pauline Palmer and Victor Higgins among others will be on display.

Ed Paschke: Neon Eccentricities | through July 11, 2010
Beginning with neon images of prostitutes, pimps and other social outcasts including Rosarita and continuing through his development into electronic masked beings, this exhibition pulls together the development of Ed Paschke’s representation of archetypical figures through the ‘70s and ‘80s.
