Focus areas of Rockford Art Museum's permanent collection include regional American art, the Taos Society, historic and contemporary photography, self-taught African-American art of the Southeastern United States, outsider art, and contemporary studio art glass.

Currently, there are three separate focus areas of the collection on display, including contemporary glass and outsider art. Also, a variety of narrative pieces are being shown as part of Once Upon a Canvas..., which runs through December 9.
