Docent-led Tours
Participants tour Rockford Art Museum’s current exhibitions, as well as selections from the RAM Permanent Collection, led by a museum collections expert (docent). One docent per 25 participants is assigned in most cases. One adult chaperone is recommended per 10 students ages K – 8. Advanced booking is required. Schedule early as tour spots fill quickly.

Length: 1 hour (45 minutes for K – 2)

Self-guided Tours
Teachers or group leaders are welcome to escort groups of children or adults through the museum galleries. Self-guided groups may schedule visits during museum gallery hours and must yield to docent guided tours in the gallery.

Artist-in-Residence
Students enjoy a docent-guided tour of Rockford Art Museum as well as a hands-on activity with RAM’s Artist in Residence. Each activity is geared to the age level of the students and related to the current exhibition.

Terrific Tuesday
This field trip offers themed lessons that coordinate learning activities in visual art, dance and science. This field trip is a collaboration between Rockford Art Museum, Rockford Dance Company, and Discovery Center Museum. In Fall 2007, teachers will be able to select one of two themes available for their field trip. “Splish Splash” will introduce students to art, dance and science through water. “Color and Light” will use the common elements of those properties to do the same. Lessons integrate Fine Arts, Language Arts and Science Goals and focus on ISBE Goals 4A, 5A, 11AB, 12CD, 13AB, 25AB, 26AB, and 27AB.

A maximum of 75 students may participate in the general program. Groups of 76-100 must choose an additional activity as part of their tour (additional fees apply).

Fabulous Fine Arts Friday
Students work with museum docents and professional performing artists to actively experience concepts and vocabulary common to music, dance and the visual arts through a carefully coordinated series of activities in each discipline. This field trip is a collaboration between Rockford Art Museum, Rockford Dance Company and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra. A limited number of dates are available for this program on a first come, first serve basis. Lessons integrate Fine Arts and Language Arts goals, and focus on ISBE Goals 1C, 4A, 25AB, 26AB, and 27AB. Part of each lesson includes experiences in Extended Response.
