On a Terrific Tuesday field trip, your students will participate in themed classes presented by Discovery Center Museum, Rockford Art Museum and Rockford Dance Company. This immersive and diverse educational experience will expressively engage students bodies and minds in science and art. In Fall 2008, teachers will be able to select one of three themes available for their field trip.

Length: 2.5 hours
Time: 9:30 am–12 pm
Cost: $9 per student, FREE for chaperones/teachers
ISBE goals: 4A, 11A, 12A, 12E 13A, 19AB, 25AB, 26AB, 27AB

2010–2011 Field Trip Themes

Body Works │Grades K–6
Science, art, and movement get under your skin as we uncover symmetry, explore how our insides have been “organ-ized,” and fashion graceful stylish motions from teams of muscle and bones.

Light and Shadow │Grades K–6
Movement, art, and science converge in areas bright and dark as we break apart light, use painting techniques to explore shade of color, create a shadow dance, and jump, step, and turn to articulate the qualities of light and shadow.

Seasons │Grades K–6
Explore what causes the temperature to change, create a self-portrait using seasonal fruits and vegetables, behave like a weather system or season as it travels the globe, or discover the rhythms of a seasonal dance.

Sending Messages │Grades K–6
Discover some unusual forms of communication as we explore the myriad ways we send messages. Move your body to make a point, utilize art to decode a secret message, and experiment with invisible ink!

Sending Messages Middle School Extension │Grades 7–8
Advanced activities for middle-schoolers investigate additional ways we transmit messages.
