Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts

Scout Workshops
Rockford Art Museum offers several workshops for scouts to earn visual art- and arts-related badges while having fun at RAM. We will customize tours and classes to help address your troopís badge needs. Outreach workshops also available.

$10 per scout, includes materials and instruction

Junior Girl Scouts

Drawing and Painting Badge

Activities include:
•Explore the use of different media (paints, crayons, pastels, chalk, colored pencils, or charcoal).

•Learn about primary and secondary colors by mixing and blending paint colors.•Discover the different painting techniques of Jackson Pollock and Marcel Duchamp, and create your own string painting and spatter painting.

•Find out how Henri Matisse would ìpaint with scissorsî and combine shapes to make paper-cuts. Use this technique to create a collage about yourself.

•Discover the importance of murals throughout history. Work as a group to create your own mural.

 

Visual Arts Badge

Activities include:

•Learn about the primary and secondary colors by mixing and blending paint colors.

•Explore how color can be used to show emotion.

•Learn about Pablo Picasso and his famous Blue and Rose periods. Pick a color and create your own monochromatic painting.

•Discover how art is different in every country and culture. Look at examples of traditional art from other cultures and make your own example.

•Visit Rockford Art Museum and take a gallery-guided tour with a RAM docent (tour guide).

•See how perspective works by looking at art that sho.ws things looking smaller in the distance, then draw your own picture using one-point perspective

 

Webelos

Artist Badge

Activities include:

•Talk to an artist or an art teacher about the different occupations in the art field.

•Learn about the color wheel and primary and secondary colors by mixing and blending paint colors.

•Use clay to sculpt a simple object.

•Learn about the artist Alexander Calder and his revolutionary art form, mobiles. Make a mobile, using your choice of materials.

•Make a 3-D art construction using your choice of recycled and found materials.

•Find out how Henri Matisse would ìpaint with scissorsî and combine shapes to make paper-cuts. Use this technique to create a collage about yourself.

 

Boy Scouts

Art Merit Badge

Activities include:

•Learn how artists can use art to tell a story. Get creative and make your own story using a variety of materials.

•Design your very own logo that represents you and your hobbies.

•Visit Rockford Art Museum and take a gallery-guided tour with a RAM docent (tour guide).

•Create your own unique piece of artwork using FOUR of these things: pen and ink, watercolor, pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, acrylic paint, or tempera paint
